Two Cocktails for a Party

This may be the greatest party drink of all time: beer and margarita in a single glass. Here's how to whip up a party-sized pitcher.

  • Beer Margarita: Pour the following ingredients into a blender: 11/2 cups tequila, 1/2 cup Grand Marnier, 1/3 bottle beer, 1 can frozen lemonade concentrate, the juice of one lime, the juice of half a lemon, and 1/2 cup agave nectar. Fill the blender with ice and blend until smooth. Pour into margarita or rocks glasses.

A more traditional alternative is the hurricane, a rum-based drink popularized by New Orleans tavern owner Pat O'Brien during the 1940s.

  • Hurricane: Combine 1 oz vodka, 1 oz amaretto, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz light rum, 1 oz gin, and 1/4 oz grenadine in a large cup 3/4 full with ice. Fill with equal parts pineapple and grapefruit juice. Serve in highball glasses.
